Primary Links in Drupal
Drupal has a term called Primary Links. When I started, I had no idea was Primary Links would be, but I soon learned they are main links, found at the top of the site. On TCP, the Primary Links are TCPblogs, TCPopinions, TCPwiki, and Contact Us.
Different themes place the Primary Links differently. I've attached screenshots of some examples of Primary Links. All of the themes used are available from The Theme Garden, and I've included the name of each theme.
Here's how to set up Primary Links:
- Log in as Administrator.
- Choose the page you want to link to and copy the URL.
- Click Administer > Site Building > Menus.
- Enter the Title, which is what will be visible on the web page.
- Enter a Description, which will be visible when a user hovers over the link.
- Paste the URL you copied earlier in the Path field.
- Make sure Primary Links is selected in the Parent item dropdown.
- Choose the weight of the item. If you want all items to be alphabetical, select the same weight for all of them. If you want an item higher (or to the left for horizontal links) in the list, choose a smaller number for the weight. If you want an item lower (or to the right for horizontal links), choose a larger number. In the TCP Primary Links, all have a weight of 0, making them alphabetical, except for Contact Us, which I want on the right. It has a weight of 1.
- Finally, click Submit to save the menu item.
- Repeat these steps for each menu item.
That's all there is to it. Have fun setting up your Primary Links!
